Tucked away in a remote corner between the Adriatic Sea and the Apennine mountains, Le Marche (the Marches) is an enchanting rural patchwork of old towns, long sandy beaches and hill country. In pre Christian times the area was settled by the Piceni, a tribe eventually assimilated by the Romans.

AnconaThe capital of the Marche is also a large seaport in the northeastern Italy. Ancona is located on the Adriatic Sea and is 133 milled northeast of Rome. Its name derives from the Greek word “ankon”, which means elbow, referring to the shape of its geographical position. Ancona is finely built between the slopes of two mountains. |
