Dominated by the prolific Apennine mountain range, the hinterland of Abruzzo forms one of Italy’s last wildernesses. Parts of Abruzzo are covered in endless tracts of forest. Along with Molise, Abruzzo are sparsely populated, quiet places where the wild landscape exerts a strong influence. With Molise Abruzzo is closely connected because since few years ago they consisted a region together Abruzzi e Molise.

L'Aquila

Abruzzo’s capital lies at the foot of the Gran Sassio, at 2,912 m (9,554 ft) the highest point o the Italian mainland south of the Alps (goof for skiing). Lets ancient streets are peppered with churches. Although less than two hours’ drive from Rome, the city (laid out within medieval walls) has not yet been heavily affected by foreign tourism. L’ Aquila is the site of many electronic industries, and is the home of a rugby team that has won the Italian national championship on numerous occasions.
