Climate of Italy

The Italian Peninsula has a varied climate falling into three distinct geographical regions. Cold Alpine winters and warm, wet summers characterize the northern regions. In the extensive Po Valley, and summers contrast with freezing, damp winters. The rest of Italy has a pleasant climate with long hot summers and mild winters (Mediterranean climate). Cooler weather along the backbone of the Alpines can bring snow during the winter months.
