Region of Apulia

Apulia (or simply Puglia in Italian) is the "heel" of the Italian boot! Bordering with the Adriatic Sea in the east, the Ionian Sea to the southeast and the Strait of Otranto and Gulf Taranto in he south. This is were the last scenes of the second Punic War took place.
Apulia has a glorious architecture, particularly in the castles and the churches of the north. The curious trulli houses in central Apulia, the florid Baroque of Lecce and the Levantine atmosphere of its merchant cities complete a picture of an ancient land subject to more influences from outside the Italian peninsula than from within it
